Edgerton launches Hometown Heroes banner project

Edgerton launches Hometown Heroes banner project
Edgerton to display banners featuring images of hometown service members; honoring current, past and retired military members

The Edgerton Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its Hometown Hero banner program to honor veterans for their military service with a street side banner and photo.

“It’s an excellent way to recognize the sacrifice and service of the members of our community who served or presently serve in the U.S. military,” Village Administrator, Dawn Fitzcharles said. “The banners are comparable to those already displayed in neighboring communities including Hamilton, Indiana and Bryan, Ohio. They include a service member’s name, photograph, indication of military branch and years of service. Beginning in April of 2022, they’ll be displayed along the main routes in the town from Memorial Day through Veteran’s Day each year. Every community is made up of dedicated active service members and veterans who have served our country admirably and we continue to find ways to honor that contribution. This is a simple way to say thank you”.

Banners may be purchased by friends or families of veterans, community organizations and businesses. Each banner costs $175; that covers the cost of the banner, bracket, installation, and storage. Honoree’s must be an Edgerton High School Graduate OR a former/current resident of the Edgerton Local School District. The idea was presented to Village Administration by several community members that supported the project. Edgerton resident, Tomara Rhoden, stepped up and is leading the organizational effort with the Edgerton Chamber of Commerce.

A public inauguration ceremony will be announced in the future and all community members will be invited to attend.

Families and individuals can find information and an application included in their utility bill or using the link below.

First round of applications and payments are due February 15, 2021.
